Intro to Combatives

Beginner

COURSE DETAILS

"I don't need to know how to fight. I carry a gun." It's a statement many people have heard, or even believed. The reality is that most violent encounters never rise to the level of deadly force. And even when they do, your firearm isn't always the first—or best—solution. This four-hour Intro to Combatives course introduces students to the fundamentals of integrated combatives and the importance of having multiple force options available. Students will learn the basic principles of managing threats at close range, maintaining control of distance, and transitioning between empty-hand techniques and tools when appropriate. Through practical drills and hands-on instruction, students will develop a foundational understanding of stance, movement, striking, stand-up grappling, blade awareness, and accessing defensive tools within arm's reach. COURSE OVERVIEW: - Mindset and defensive decision-making - Threat assessment and distance management - Fighting stance and movement fundamentals - Basic striking techniques - Introduction to stand-up grappling - Introduction to blade work - Producing defensive tools within arm's reach - Transitions between empty-hand skills and other force options COURSE REQUIREMENTS: - No live firearms or ammunition are permitted in this course. - Weather and range appropriate clothing (suitable for physical movement, closed-toe shoes, hat, sunscreen) - Holster and inert pistol shape (Blue Gun, SIRT pistol, Mantis, or similar) - Aluminum training blade (if available - will be provided if needed).
