Curious about competitive shooting but not sure where to start? This course is designed to give shooters the knowledge, skills, and confidence to safely participate in USPSA matches. Through a combination of classroom instruction, hands-on drills, and live-fire stages, you'll learn the rules, safety procedures, equipment, scoring, and movement techniques that form the foundation of competitive shooting. Whether your goal is to shoot your first match or simply become a faster, more efficient shooter, this course provides a safe and supportive environment to build your skills. COURSE OVERVIEW: - Fundamentals of USPSA and practical shooting competition - Competitive shooting safety rules, range commands, and match etiquette - Cold range procedures and safe table usage - USPSA divisions and how to determine which division fits your equipment - Competition gear selection, setup, and equipment requirements - Hit Factor scoring and the balance between speed and accuracy - Common causes of disqualification—and how to avoid them - Proper movement through a stage while maintaining safe muzzle orientation - Safe retreating and reloading techniques - Stage planning, walkthrough strategies, and developing an efficient shooting plan - Live-fire execution of multiple competition stages COURSE REQUIREMENTS: - Valid Massachusetts License to Carry (LTC) - Must already possess safe firearm handling skills and be comfortable drawing from a holster. - Completion of Handgun Fundamentals (or equivalent training approved by Lykos Training Center) - Handgun with a minimum of 3 magazines - Quality outside-the-waistband (OWB) holster - 3 quality magazine holders - 300 rounds of ammunition - Eye and ear protection - Weather and range appropriate clothing – closed-toe shoes, hat, sunscreen, etc. - Notebook, pen, and sharpie marker - Water and snacks DURATION: 5 Hours This course is ideal for shooters who have developed solid handgun fundamentals and are ready to take the next step into practical shooting sports. Whether you're interested in competing in your first USPSA match, improving your gun handling under time pressure, or simply becoming a safer and more efficient shooter, this class provides the foundational knowledge and live-fire experience needed to confidently step onto the competition range.

LIABILITY WAIVER REQUIRED All participants must sign a Firearms Training Agreement – Waiver of Liability & Assumption of Risk before participation. This agreement includes a waiver of claims, including those based on negligence, as allowed by law, and governs the full legal relationship between you and Lykos Training Center Inc. ARRIVAL REQUIREMENT Participants must arrive 30 minutes prior to their scheduled start time to allow for check-in, travel to the range, safety briefing, and preparation. Late arrival may result in denial of participation without refund. SAFETY & REMOVAL POLICY You must follow all safety rules and instructor directions at all times. Lykos Training Center reserves the right to remove any participant immediately, without refund or credit, if safety rules are violated or if the participant is deemed unsafe, impaired, or unfit for training. LEGAL COMPLIANCE You are solely responsible for complying with all federal and Massachusetts firearms laws and ensuring you are legally eligible to participate. NO GUARANTEE OF OUTCOME Participation does not guarantee skill level, certification, employment, or any legal authority to possess or carry firearms. POLICIES INCORPORATED By booking, you agree to all Lykos Training Center policies, including Safety & Range Policy, Booking & Cancellation Policy, Privacy Policy, and Terms & Conditions. MEDIA NOTICE Training may be recorded (photo/video/audio). By participating, you consent to incidental recording and authorize use for business and promotional purposes unless you opt out in writing before training begins.
